Celebrating a Deathday™: Midget wrestler Raymond Kessler, a.k.a., the Haiti Kid, went to the great — if undersized — ‘wrasslin’ canvas in the sky on May 5, 2001. Of all the muscle-bound little men on the little mat, the Kid was the most feared and fun to watch, wielding his truncated limbs with prowess, taking down pretenders like Little Farmer Jack with ease. Yours Truly Dooley® had the pleasure of making the Kid’s acquaintance whilst policing the championship bouts at the Hammersmith Odeon in the middle 80’s. His mixed-species tag team matches with Hillbilly Jim and Little Beaver vs. King Kong Bundy, Little Toyko and countryman Lord Littlebrook were mini epics. The Little Rascalian™ was rough and tough, hard to bluff and not afraid to die! But die he did on this day. Had he lived, the Haiti Kid would be 3 ft. 10 in. tall. This morning we’ll have a proper short stack of hot cakes in his honour.
