Jerry's Jubilee
Celebrating
a Deathday™: Messianic ice cream mogul Jerry Garcia, of Ben and Jerry’s® fame,
died, or rather tie-died, on this day August 9, 1995. The bearded and
bespectacled flavor guru kicked the milk bucket at just 57, but he did so doing
what he loved best — sampling the super premium frozen concoctions that bore
his name. A stickler for an accurate blending of milk fat, sugars — what he
called "Sugaree" — and all-natural fruits, Jerry himself was the
inspiration for the wildly popular Cherry Garcia. Anyone who's ever encountered
this blissful romance of real bling cherries and New England fudge flakes will
attest to its addictive quality. Alas, ‘twas an addiction that caught up with
the man they called Captain Trips, who took his final trip to that Cold Stoned
Creamery® in the sky far too young. In addition to his namesake flavor, Jerry
left behind many others that grateful undead fans stand in line for. Had he
lived, Jerry — said to be a guitar picker of some prowess — would likely be
driving that milk train, scarfing down a pint of Uncle John's Chocolate or
Casey Jones' Ripple. Happy Anni-hearse-ary™, "Cherry" Garcia.
